BOOK SIGNINGS DURING YORK BOOK AND PAPER FAIR

YORK, PA—Four authors will conduct book signings during the York Book and Paper Fair on Saturday, April 4 in the “Old Main” building of the York Fairgrounds.

Included on the list are Scott Mingus Sr. (Civil War historian), Steve McKee (memoir/health) and novelists Mary Jo Putney (romance/science fiction), and Greg Cox (popular culture/science fiction).

The spring event marks the first time in its 25-year history that the York Book and Paper Fair has hosted author signings.

“We’re really quite flattered that these authors—each well-respected within their chosen genres—have elected to join us,” said organizer Pam Lewin.

A special area has been designated for the signings, according to Lewin.  Each author will sign new and used copies of their books, and attendees are encouraged to bring their personal copies of the authors’ works for inscription.

“That’s a departure from normal practice,” Lewin said.  “Most venues require the purchase of a book at the time of signing.  We’re hoping that people bring their own copies for personalization.”

Lewin noted that both new and used copies of the authors’ works will be available for purchase.

The signing schedule begins at 11:00 am with Civil War historian Scott Mingus, Sr.  Mingus, a York native, has most recently published Flames Beyond Gettysburg which details the expedition of Confederate General John B. Gordon’s foray through Adams and York counties prior to the battle of Gettysburg.  The book focuses on Confederate attempts to capture Harrisburg in June 1863.

At Noon, Steve McKee will sign copies of My Father’s Heart.  McKee, also a native of Central Pennsylvania, has been interviewed on NBC’s Today Show and National Public Radio, among other programs, in connection with the book.

At 1:00 pm the schedule calls for New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly bestselling author, Mary Jo Putney.  She is a graduate of Syracuse University with degrees in eighteenth-century literature and industrial design. She has won numerous awards for her writing, including two Romance Writers of America RITA awards, four consecutive Golden Leaf awards for Best Historical Romance, and the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Historical Romance. She is the author of 26 novels and has been featured in the recently-published Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance.

Greg Cox begins his signings at 2:00 pm. He is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous Star Trek novels, including The Q Continuum, To Reign In Hell, The Eugenics Wars (Volumes One and Two), Assignment: Eternity, and The Black Shore.  He wrote the official movie novelizations of Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Death Defying Acts, Underworld, and Underworld: Evolution, as well the novelizations of three popular DC Comics miniseries, Infinite Crisis, 52, and Countdown.  In addition, he has written books and short stories based on such popular series as Alias, Batman, Buffy C.S.I., Farscape, Fantastic Four, The 4400, X-Men, Iron Man, Roswell, Underworld, Xena, and Zorro.

This is the second event under the new management team for the York Book and Paper Fair.  Event organizers Pam and Jim Lewin also run The York Emporium used book and curiosity shop in downtown York.

The couple are authors themselves, having published four works of history with HarperCollins under The Smithsonian imprint.
